André Gallant is a writer and photographer based in Athens, Ga. He tells complicated stories about food, farming, and culture in the ever-shifting South. His writing and photographs have been featured in the Oxford American, Gravy (the journal of the Southern Foodways Alliance), the Bitter Southerner, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Modern Farmer, Paste, and Civil Eats.
In 2019, the University of Georgia Press will publish André's first book, "The High Low Tide," an intimate portrait of the Georgia oyster industry during a time of great transition.
André serves as part-time faculty at the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism. He earned an undergraduate journalism degree and a MFA in Narrative Nonfiction from the school.
He is the founding editor of Crop Stories, a literary journal exploring farm culture in the American South.
