I was asked by my local newspaper, my former full-time employer, to arrange a month of stories featuring cancer-fighting foods with recipes by local chefs. The Wednesday food section had been adopted as this year's "pink" section devoted to breast cancer awareness, so I needed to find some tie to the theme.
The Internet is filled with tips and lists about what foods to eat to boost antioxidant intake and ward off cancer, but I certainly didn't want to taste and shoot any fads - I've never met anyone who cooks with goji berries or whatever. There's plenty in our Southern pantry that meets the requirements of being a "cancer-fighting" food, and, luckily, the chefs that responded to my request to contribute followed that thinking.
Here are the recipes that Hugh Acheson, Mimi Maumus and Rebecca Lang offered up to the series. I tested and shot them, and you can click through for the recipes.
